On the morning of September 24th, 2001, Salit Shitrit and her husband Barak left their house in Kibbutz Sde Eliahu to go to Jerusalem. They were driving in their family’s car, which was not bullet-proof. They were on their way to deliver Salit’s homework at the University. They also took candies and sweets to give to the soldiers at the road blocks.

At about 6 am, on their way south on the Jordan valley road near the Palestinian village of Bardala, terrorists opened fire at the couple from a passing pick up truck.

Dozens of bullets hit the car and killed Salit.

Barak wasn't hit at all.

Commemorized:

Salit Shitrit
