On Thursday July 25th 2002 at 3 am, Rabbi Elimelech Shapira, aged 41, and his friend Rabbi Elizur Lilental, were on their way to a nightly Kabbalah class in Bnei Brak. West of Peduel on the road connecting Peduel and the Trans-Samaria Highway they were ambushed by terrorists and shot.
Rabbi Shapira was killed.
The square commemorating him is on the way from Peduel to Alei Zahav.
