On Wednesday April 14th 1948 Yosef Hircshberg worked in his Tomato garden near his house in Pardes Chana. A single shot was fired from the near by British army camp. Yosef was badly wounded and died on the way to the hospital.
The event took place just a few days before the British left that camp and Israel.
Yosef was 58 years old.
Yosef’s name was commemorated on a stone near a single tree that remained from a line of trees Yosef himself planted on TU BISHVAT 1934.
