On Sunday, October 27th, 2002, a suicide terrorist arrived at the gas station in Ariel, a place of meeting for many soldiers coming back from the weekend before going on duty. The terrorist carried a bomb belt on his body. Matan Zagron, 22 years old, identified the terrorist and together with other soldiers tried to apprehend the terrorist, during the struggle the bomb exploded and three soldiers were killed, Lieutenant Matan Zagron, Major Tamir Masad and master sergeant Amihood Hasid. The three prevented a much more serious attack that the terrorist may have committed.
