On Thursday March 11th 1948 an Arab terrorist managed to enter a car bomb to the national society’s yard on King George Street in Jerusalem. The explosives loaded car was driven by a driver of the American consulate who was a double agent. He managed to get the “Hagana” confidence by promises to supply them with weapons.
After parking the car in the yard he left, the car was parked underneath the office of David ben Gurion. When one of the guards moved the car it exploded.
12 people were killed, amongst them 6 guards, 45 were wounded.
Arie Leib Yaffe the general manager of “Keren Hayesod”, a public activist, a journalist, a poem and a writer died at his desk.
Arie was 71 years old.
