Mordechai Yigal established a dairy in the Beit Hakerem neighborhood. Shimon Les, 28, who had come to Jerusalem due to health problems from the Ein Harod kibbutz, worked in Mordechai Yigal's dairy. In 19 December 1937, while distributing milk on a bicycle, he was murdered by an Arab ambush.
A sniffer dog was brought to the scene of the murder, and it turned out that the Arab murderer had dug a hiding place for himself, from which he shot and hit Shimon Les, then approached him and fired several more shots at him.
The sniffer dog led the British police force towards the wadi, and from there towards the Arab village of Beit Saffa, where the traces were lost and the murderer was not found.
A monument was erected at the scene of the murder in the neighborhood at the intersection of Hehalutz and Yassedim streets in memory of the murdered Shimon Les.
